The studies gather 22 older and young women, with a mean age of 66.7 and 21.3 year old. They were asked to rest well and 12 hours fast before the beginning day of the research. Resting HR, blood pressure, body composition are obtained on the first day. Study started within 2 weeks after measurement. Monitor and record the HR of o five sub-maximal and one maximal Shallow water exercise bout, and a 40-min shallow water exercise class.
The result shows there was no difference in oxygen uptake between young and older groups for sub-maximal bout. However, HR, MET and kcal per minute responses were greater for the younger group. RPE responses were similar between groups.
During the shallow water exercise class, younger group had a greater HR, MET level but not a big difference, older group had an overall greater RPE. In conclusion both the old and young groups self-selected efforts that meet ACSM’s intensity guidelines to enhance cardiovascular and muscular fitness, the results are similar.
